White grape variety grown in the sub-region of Monção, in the Demarcated Region of Vinhos Verdes. It is also grown in Galicia (Spain), in the Rias Baixas region, where it is known as Albariño. This vine is used in both regions to produce some remarkable white wines. These are high quality, aromatic, delicate wines rich in terpenic aromas. It is probably the noblest of Portuguese white grape varieties.
Amanhos (cultivation; growth)
Different works performed in the vine when everything was done manually. The digging would take place in May to eliminate weeds and harden the earth. In June, some superficial work would be performed to keep the earth soft.
Red grape variety recommended in the Lafões region.
Characteristic perfume of the Chardonnay variety. It is also said of the dark golden colour white wines get when they oxidise. This colouring is quite normal in brandies or amontillados from Jerez.
