IVM (free translation: Madeira Wine Institute) supports vine production in the region, controls winemaking processes and – together with other organisations – promotes Madeira Wine.

IVM has a Tasting Panel whose functions are: to assess the quality of the wines produced in the region; certify, analyse and approve the labels for the wines produced in the demarcated region; and control the commercialisation of those wines.

In an attempt to help producers of VQPRD (QWPSR) and Regional wines who lack financial resources, IVM created the Adega de São Vicente (free translation: São Vicente Cellar). The producers pay a certain amount of money and the cellar produces the wines for them.
