Portuguese wine exports to China nearly doubled last year to a total value of ?4.3 million, and the prospects for future growth are intoxicating, promoter Miguel Nora said.
Along with the United States and Brazil, the Chinese market will be the third most important target for the Vini Portugal promotion agency in 2012, he added in comments to Lusa News Agency in Beijing.

“China is by far our fastest growing market”, Nora said. “It wasn’t even among the top 30 two years ago and now its ranked 18th”.

He said more than 200 professionals had attended Vini Portugal’s wine tasting show in Beijing, surpassing expectations.

Twenty-eight producers, featuring 300 labels, had participated, he said.

Angola, France and Britain remain Portugal’s prime wine export markets.
