Angola is the biggest importer of Portuguese wine

Angola is currently the biggest importer of win produced in Portugal, the chairman of the ViniPortugal association, Francisco Borba, said in Porto.
During a meeting with the Angolan press about the 1st International Wine Fair, to be held in the city of Porto, from 9 to 11 December, Borba also said that Angola consumed 22 percent of Portugal’s wine production, which is business estimated to be worth US$258 million.

According to the chairman of ViniPortugal, the significant level of economic development that Angola is experiencing, along with the quality of Portuguese wine, are the main factors that have led to a rise in imports of Portuguese wines by Angolan companies.

According to the chairman, exports of Portuguese wine in the first half of 2010, rose 11 percent against the same period of 2009, due to its renowned quality.

As well as Angola, Borba noted that Portugal exports to other markets such as the United States, China, ,Europe and Brazil, which is also a rapidly expanding market.

ViniPortugal is an inter-professional association that aims to promote Portuguese wines, brandies and vinegars on the domestic and international market.
